Urban Legends

Snopes.com Urban Legends is a very good website but browsing their quotes I found one oddity.

This here is the example that stands out.

Barry has been criticized for the size of his security detail, and a 1997 recall movement was prompted in part by the city's slow response to broken water mains, but there is no record of Barry's having made the ridiculous statements cited above in response to these controversies.

Hmm, it states the "bitch" comment is an urban legend, but then says he was on record for saying it. I would grant it being a confirmed quotable comment rather than a false one.

Blogs Go Mainstream

Blogs are now World News Tonight's People of the year.

As a driving force in politics this year, bloggers covered the 2004 presidential campaigns and election. Political candidates also used them as valuable campaign tools.
"The Internet taught us, rather than the other way around," said former Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean.
This year, for the first time, bloggers were permitted to cover the national political conventions firsthand.
Bloggers have taken the lead over traditional media on a number of stories, including racist remarks made by then-Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott, R-Miss., at former Sen. Strom Thurmond's birthday party.

It is a bit of a white-washed report, but I am glad that it was mentioned. About five years from now when blogs make the media totally obsolete they will then probably start dwelling into the topics that are taking money away from the Mainstream Media.

Washington Governor To Be Changed?

This will be quite interesting.

I was thinking the whole outcome was screwy, perhaps the republicans can fix it.

Georgian Lawmaker Attempts Abortion Ban

This guy has a lot of guts.


Without the blessing of his own party, a Republican Georgia legislator has introduced a bill outlawing nearly all abortions in the state.
Rep. Bobby Franklin put forth the legislation Tuesday despite criticism from fellow Republican members of the state House.

According to a report in the Marietta Daily Journal, Franklin says his bill stand a better chance this year than last because the Democrats no longer control state government.
"If you don't have hope, you don't have any business being up here," he said, responding to criticism that his bill is likely dead in the water.
House members slammed the bill, saying it runs afoul of the Supreme Court's 1973 Roe v. Wade decision.
"This is just extreme and irresponsible," Rep. Rob Teilhet, a Democrat, told the paper. "It's flagrantly unconstitutional, and I'm just not sure what the point is."


This seems to be a bit over the top. Although I admire his pure tenacity. And I am a big opponent of abortion in today's age, it would be very hard to pass an anti abortion bill. My strategem on this would attempt to outlaw it a piece at a time, just as gun-rights-opponents currently work on. (With great success I might add.) An all-out ban just won't work in round one.

As for the bill being unconstitutional. What a load of crock! The democrats have had entire bills passed re-writing the constitution. The Brady Bill, restricting firearms sellers to only buy guns that are only made in-state, passing laws in violation of the 27th ammendment.... I could go on. A democratic harpy will not preech to me as to what is constitutional.

What pray tell is the ammendment that gives a women a right to an abortion?

Preferred Segregation?

While talking with some people at the college they noted something I have never considered.

At the college I attend we have the theater center, were stuff like Music Appreciation, Art Appreciation, Speech, Comp, exist.In a different section of the college grounds you have the athletic departments. In the middle of the college we have the business center. Where you learn Business Admin, automotive, lab and natural sciences, math. On our side of the college you have Computer, Cosmotology, And the Criminal Justice Programs. What was mentioned that made me think long and hard is the closer you got to our building the more conservative you got. Since fewer people are getting into the business, cj, and cosmo courses and more are into the Associate of Arts stuff, it would explain why liberals dominate the campuses.

Loss of an officer.....

Greenwood County Sheriff Matt Samuals was killed in the line of duty last wednesday. This marks a very sad occassion in Law Enforcement. The problems with a loss such as this is it puts a divide in the public between law enforcement and the general populace. The police become more distrussful and cautious around John Q. Citizen and the citizen likewise feels the cop is an overbearing jerk.

I've read a little about this man and he seemed to be very much the community police officer. I am pretty sure he wouldn't want the above scenario I mentioned to be a inadvertant legacy. I know if I was killed in that manner I would hope it wouldn't change things.

So if you are in law enforcement. Be careful, but be respectful. And if you aren't, please understand that the LEO's have a tough job, and they have their bad days, too.

The King of Late Night Has Passed On...

Well another great comedy genious has passed on.

Johnny Carson was almost before my time. I recall seeing his last episode and an occasional one that was re-ran through the years. I do know that he was an inspiration to all stand-ups and had an uncanny prowless at comedy. He shall be missed.

Problems with blogging....

I've been thinking over the blogging thing lately and I backed out of it for a while because of several reasons.

1. Most of what I say is nothing more than a yessir to most of the other blogs out there.

2 Getting into law enforcement I find that enemies are on all sides. Anywhere from posting on "right-winged" messageboards to talking to people in history class. Law enforcement is loathed by all and a blog could be used against a person by the thought police.

But after careful considerations, someone just shouldn't shut up because of the consequences or too many of the same opinion. It should be seen as even more reason to further the thoughts and ideals our founding fathers have intended.

Posting again....

Started classes back up again. Between the classes and what I've been seeing on the internet I suspect my hybrid of conservatism is very very rare. So I think I'll jump back on the blogwagon again and see if I can either promote my ideals or find someone who actually thinks on the same line. Who knows what will happen.
